COOPERATIVE GROUP ASSIGNMENT - SESSION 3
First, individually respond to this question:
What was the primary purpose behind the . . . (one legal case per group)
A. Brown vs. Topeka School Board Supreme Court decision of 1954 ?
B. Federal Bilingual Education Act of 1968 ?
C. Lau vs. Nichols Supreme Court Decision of 1974 ?
D. Unz Initiative or Prop. 227
and what is the significance of this law ? Be as specific as you can.
Write your response on a sheet of paper and put your name on it. Take 10 minutes to do this (Checker - check to see that this is done by initializing each paper).
Second, as a group now, discuss each individual response and listen for commonalities among responses (Facilitator - make sure group members stay on task and that you focus on task, Recorder/Reporter - record this as you will report out these findings). You will have 20 minutes for this part.
After discussion, the Set-Up Person will now get a large sheet of white paper and markers, and set-up the materials.
On the white sheet of paper the Drawer/Translator will summarize, i.e. use bullets to list the common responses to the group question, as well as (with the help of the group) draw a picture/illustration representing the group answer to the question.
Next, the Recorder/Reporter will report out to the entire class when this group is called on by the professor.
Will indicate which persons had which roles today.
During this entire process only the Facilitator can speak to or ask questions of the professor and only after the group has not been able to find a solution.
At the end of reporting out the Take-Down Person will return all materials to the table at the front of the room, including individual responses (papers).
