EDUC 607 - Murillo

Format for Group Project Proposal / Presentation

Written proposals (one per group) are due in-class session 4 (15 points). Each group must also be prepared to give a brief presentation to the rest of the class (approx. 5 - 10 minutes, including Q & A from other class members)!! Apply the general “Characteristics...” and “Process” outlined in Schumacher and Mcmillan, pp. 11-14 for all group projects!!!

There is an intrinsic logic to research processes. First is shaping the question. Second is the selection of research design. Last comes decisions about tools for managing and analyzing data. Here are some questions for your group to answer to facilitate the process of your small-scale research study:

1) Who is in the group?

2) Why did you decide to work together?

3) What is the issue you want to study? Proposed research questions or foreshadowed problems?

4) With what field of education do you associate your issue?

5) Does your issue tend to support the paradigm, or the anomalies, in that field of education?

6) According to the chart on p. 18 (table 1.3) into which type of research will your study plan fit (Basic, Applied, or Evaluation)?

7) Which research design do you expect to apply for your plan (see the Syllabus chart)? Although this question appears simple, most groups direct 85% to 90% of their preliminary presentation time to the design issue--their rationale, data collection, treatment, and presentation. “Design” is the structure of your entire plan.

8) Go to http://irb.csusb.edu/applicationForms/ and print out a copy of the IRB application form. Fill it out, and attach it to this group project proposal. You could also save it as Word and type in your answers.
